Thoughts on Driving 5000 km....

Wolfing down a sandwich at Mt. Rushmore -- just a
little deke off the interstate. :)
  • I will NEVER do a road trip of this magnitude again. Next time, I fly.
  • Kentuckians and Albertans would get along just fine...I had cruise control set at 80 MPH, and I was in the slow lane. LOVE IT!!
  • You can't cash traveler's cheques at banks in Wilmington, North Carolina...My Dad went to 4, including the RBC. He would have had to open a bank account. Very odd.
  • US Interstates ROCK!!! Everybody GETS that the right lane is for driving in, the left lane is for passing. There are virtually no knuckleheads that sit in the left lane going 10km/hr under the speed limit = BLISS!!
  • All along the Interstates, they have these awesome huge and clean restrooms. Soooo nice.
  • Caffeine and driving go together.
  • Driving 1000km a day does a real number on leg/foot swelling and pain. :(
  • It's good to go with a senior (my Dad) to take advantage of the senior's discount for motel rooms. (Plus, he's a vet, and I have a CAA card -- we have a 1 in 3 chance of getting some type of deal! LOL.
  • The wind blew so hard through South Dakota, it blew my antenna off. You should have seen the tumbleweed action: big tumbleweeds, little tumbleweeds, and the really cute tiny baby tumbleweeds.

SOunds like you are having fun, I remember when I drove a Uhaul from Arizona to Ohio, I hated it, it took sooooooo long.

I loved Rushmore!! The year I went I drove from there back to Canmore in a day....talk about long! The states is weird....when I was in San Fransico, the stores don't take our Debit cards. As for drivers....not much time is wasted on the innerstates. Good luck with the race Have Fun!

The banks there *are* strange. In Seattle once I just about melted a clerks brain by asking to buy American dollars, and how much were they?

Oh, and who's that girl with your father? Long hair - are you growing yours out? And a big purse? I totally don't take you for a big purse kind of girl. Huge gym bag yes. purse no.

Keith -- Are you lovin' my long locks???? EEEEE!! I am! You should see me - I shake it all the time now. LMAO!!!!

And the purse is my girly concession. It holds 2 water bottles, a camera, 2 wallets (one for Canuck $, one for US $ -- don't ask), and a bunch of other stuff. :)

Good luck this weekend Jules! I'll be thinking of you!

Also, you have never driven in Colorado. A-holes LOVE to sit in the left lane here while going at least 15 mph under the speed limit. It's maddening and why I practice yoga so much :).
